Affirmation: I am Persistent

I am persistent. I will never give up. I know that anything worthwhile in life does not come immediately or without hard work. I must stay patient and believe in myself and in my dreams. Most importantly I must try again and again when I meet with defeat. Because I know that eventually I will succeed. I know that the future is in my hands and that is why I must never give up. I deserve my best life possible. I will not settle for anything less.

Being persistent keeps our dreams alive because of the never give up mentality. Life can be a struggle and sometimes we go through defeats along the journey. It is important that we have strong reasons behind our dreams. So that when we are met with defeat we don’t fold under disappointment. Hold those reasons for your dreams closely in your mind. It will build your persistence and almost guarantee a successful outcome in your endeavor.

Fireside Chats #5: Persistence

Fireside Chats

I’m happy to have you for this fireside chat. As the week comes to a close I have something I wish to share with you. This week’s topic is about the trait of persistence and how it can change your life.

So take a seat and let’s begin my dear friend.

It is a trait that mother nature has had since the beginning of time. Water carving out valleys between mountains. Though slow in the process, tons of rock is eventually eroded away. Nothing on this earth can defeat persistence. It is a trait that can’t comprehend surrender.

Those who have tasted the sweet victory of success throughout the eons have possessed this unwavering trait. Never taking no for n answer. Never giving in to the defeats and failures that life will bring. Pushing forward against the slimmest of odds. Trying again and again until success becomes and inevitable result.

Persistence is the mortal enemy of mediocrity. For with persistence, all obstacles eventually crumble. Adversity is tamed. Failure is whipped. Life yields and releases its riches.

This trait combines the mind, heart and soul. Working together in harmony to achieve the end result. No matter what the costs might be. Digging to the deepest depths of the human will, all for one more attempt for the victor’s crown.

You see, persistence encompasses only one thing. How bad do you want it? It is about seeing how far one may go and how much one can take. How many times you can get knocked down and get back up with a smile on your face. If you want something as badly as you want to breathe. Persistence is the trait that makes it a reality.

The only way that persistence may be developed is through the trials and tribulations of life. It is the process of overcoming anything that life throws at you. To keep moving forward regardless of the current circumstances. Trudging through the mud to a brighter future.

To have persistence you must never give up. There is no other way. There never will be another way. Life will always have a price to pay for anything worthwhile. It’s up to you to pay the price no matter how high the cost. The reward must be of your wildest dreams. Otherwise you’ll quit along the way. You must love the journey. Regardless of how bumpy the ride might be. Most of all, surrender must not be part of your vocabulary. Success is the only option for your life.

I hope you enjoyed our chat. May today be the best day of your life and the coming days keep getting better. Until we meet again next week I hope that your coming week is filled with joy and prosperity. Thank you for stopping by.

Rock Bottom #4: Out From The Depths

So last week we talked about the climb out of rock bottom. How is your climb going? Hopefully you’ve made some great strides and are in the process of turning your life around.

I know that the climb out of rock bottom takes time. It isn’t something that happens overnight. If you’re still climbing that’s okay. You’re doing incredible. Don’t stop.

Soon enough you’ll climb out from the depths. All that hard work for your comeback will be that much sweeter. You can now see the light, the light being the future of an awesome life.

It’s time for you to get back to ground level. From there you will already possess the necessary tools for success. Gained in the climb from the pits of rock bottom. The persistence to never give up. The faith in yourself and in your dreams. The courage to keep pushing forward.

From ground level, the sky is the limit for your life. Because if you can escape from the clutches of rock bottom. You can do anything in life.

If you’re still fighting or just beginning the journey, keep going. No matter how long it takes, it’ll be worth it in the end.

I hope that you enjoyed this series. That you gained some valuable knowledge to help you live your best life possible. That is my sole reason why I write these posts for you.

If you would kindly oblige, would you take a moment to vote in the poll below? I value your feedback. Thank you.

Rock Bottom #3: The Climb Out

So last time we talked you were preparing to make a comeback for the ages. How have you been fairing in that endeavor?

Now that you’ve made the decision to comeback from rock bottom into a better life for yourself, it’s time to start the climb. Hold on tight because this is going to be a treacherous climb.

How long have you been at rock bottom? Weeks? Months? Years? Decades? The reason I ask is because the longer you’ve been down there, the longer climbing out is going to take. Don’t be discouraged about your answer. Remember that you are making a comeback for the ages. Believe that it’s possible for you.

Sometimes when you’ve been at rock bottom for an extended period of time, you have an uneasy familiarity with it. A distorted comfort of sorts. You want to get out but don’t want to put in the effort necessary. You don’t want to feel uncomfortable and go through the growth needed to get out. I’m going to tell you something. You need to get comfortable being uncomfortable if you are going to climb out of rock bottom.

When you demand more out of your life, life is going to demand more out of you. It is the balance that holds the universe in order. You’re going to have to dig deep within. There you will find strength unknown to you and potential waiting to be unleashed. So let’s begin the climb.

I will share something with you. During this climb you will experience all types of terrain. Some of it will be smooth, some will be at a gentle incline. This is just life playing a game with you. It’s a preparation of what’s to come.

Then there will be times of difficult traversing. Obstacles thrown your way. Adversities you never saw coming. Defeats that will try to make you lose your grip. This is the test of life. You must hold your ground and continue the climb up.

This is where you must harness your will. Dig deep and not allow anything to get you down. It is about persistence and determination that you deserve to have a better life. Because you do. During these tough times when you are tested remember this. It will pass. Things won’t always be this bad.

So you’ve begun the climb out of rock bottom. What an incredible feat it is! Keep going and don’t stop no matter what. Your life is valuable and you deserve to have more, do more and be more.

Finding Your Purpose #3: The Tiring Search For It

Still searching for your purpose in life? Are you getting tired of searching and feel like giving up? Don’t give up. Finding your life’s purpose can be a tiring ordeal. You’re frustrated, disappointed and maybe even depressed from not finding it. The mysterious reason for why you’re on this earth.

Finding your purpose is not an easy endeavor. Nor should it be. Purpose is the pinnacle of life. It is something that once found, gives our life a deep sense of meaning that is unrivaled. So it may take days, weeks, months, even years to finally find it. But once it’s found all that searching will not be in vain.

There are two key principles you must understand during your time looking for your purpose. Both are of utmost importance if you are going to find it one glorious day.

You must never stop searching for your purpose in life. No matter what. Purpose makes life plentiful, beautiful, and most of all, it makes life fulfilling. Are these things that you want to experience for your life? Then you must never stop trying to find your purpose. Keep searching and don’t settle. You’ll know when you’ve found it.

You must have faith that you will find your purpose. You have to wholeheartedly believe that one day it will come. Keeping a positive mental attitude is essential during your search. If you believe that you’ll never find your purpose then you won’t. A negative mental attitude will allow the opportunity to slip right by when the time comes. Have faith in yourself. Everyday you are getting closer to finding it.

Persistence and faith are key during the search. It’s simple. Don’t give and believe with all of your heart that you will find it. You will. Be patient. The day will come.

In the meantime during your search. Help others and find a way to contribute to society that has a positive impact in your community. Find something that you would feel good doing. Trust me it will aid in the process of finding your purpose.

Next week we will go more into giving and contribution. The role that it plays in finding your purpose and what the secret to living is. Remember, don’t stop searching and believe that you will find your purpose. Stay positive along the journey and you’ll be rewarded.

How Bad Do You Want It?

If you want a thing bad enough

To go out and fight for it,

Work day and night for it,

Give up your time and your peace and your sleep for it

If only desire of it

Makes you quite mad enough

Never to tire of it,

Makes you hold all other things tawdry and cheap for it

If life seems all empty and useless without it

And all that you scheme and you dream is about it,

If gladly you’ll sweat for it,

Fret for it,

Plan for it,

Lose all your terror of God or man for it,

If you’ll simply go after that thing that you want.

With all your capacity,

Strength and sagacity,

Faith, hope and confidence, stern pertinacity,

If neither cold poverty, famished and gaunt,

Nor sickness nor pain

Of body or brain

Can turn you away from the thing that you want,

If dogged and grim you besiege and beset it,

You’ll get it!

Berton Braley

Do you have something that you desire to have in your life? How badly do you want it? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to bring it to fruition?

See when we want something out of life there is a price that must be paid to receive it. There is no such thing as something for nothing. It isn’t always in the form of money. It consists of time, hard work, sacrifices, and adversity. Most of all it is the denial of immediate gratification that comes from settling for anything less than what you desire. No compromises.

It’s about persistence through the tough times. Taking one more step no matter what happens to you. Because you know deep in your heart that it will be worth it. You are absolutely certain of this. The unwavering faith that sees the end result even when plunged into the depths of darkness.

It’s about going all in. Burning the bridges of retreat, pressing forward with a courageous ferocity that will either succeed or perish. Sink or swim. It’s in this you’ll learn of talents that you never knew you had. Skills and abilities lying dormant within just waiting to be unleashed.

This thing that you want must become a magnificent obsession. Day and night. Every single breath and every second spent on working towards it’s achievement. Standing still and procrastinating is never an option. Just the very thought of it should drive you mad.

No surrender. Quitting isn’t in your vocabulary. Fears and doubts don’t control you anymore. They are instead used for fuel. Disappointment just means you are closer. Adversity means life is just testing you. Defeat is just a learning experience. Nothing can stop you towards the thing you want most.

Life will play a game with you. But you came to win no matter what the cost. You know that life will eventually bend to your will. Nothing can beat the will of a determined individual. You know that life will deliver the thing that you want only after you’ve gone through the test. The price has been paid. What a beautiful process it is.

So I ask you. How bad do you want it?

Rock Bottom #1: Introduction

It is a freefall to which mankind has had so many souls fall into its depths. Some rise out some stay there trapped for the remainder of their days. We all know its ugly name. Many of us have been there at one time or another through the journey of life.

Infinite ways of slipping down its slopes and various levels within its depths. It is a chameleon of sorts with each individual having their own perspective of this so called “monster”.

Rock bottom is defined as at the lowest limit or level possible. Meaning that you have hit your low point in life. It happens to the best of us. Life has a fickle way of beating us to our knees and kicking us when we are down. It is a cruel teacher that has no sense empathy. Cold hard truth.

All too often when life knocks you down a swell of negative emotions reaches a boiling point. The response being “why is this happening to me?” With that fear, anger, and resentment towards the cruelties that life may bring, we never truly see the answer.

Usually rock bottom hits when we have given up fighting for what we truly want in life. The “I quit” echoes throughout the far reaches of the universe. Life is just playing a game.

Too many souls to count have never been able to rise from the pits that engulf their lives. Hope seems dead and there is no escape in sight. It is a quiet desperation that is endured.

It is in these moments when we must search for a light. It’s there somewhere. Even in the darkest of times you can always find a light. It may not be much light but it beats the darkness.

Rock bottom isn’t the end of your journey in life, it is the beginning. There you will learn more about yourself than in the highest points of success. Why? Because adversity builds character. Every defeat and every failure in life brings with it a goldmine. Valuable learning experiences that develop character. As with gold you have to search for this value.

In reality rock bottom isn’t always a bad thing. It is a learning experience that can make our lives more fulfilling in the long run. With those defeats, adversities and failures along the way, the taste of success becomes that much sweeter.

Let’s not look at rock bottom or the down times in life as a tragedy. Let’s look for the value in those situations. For that may turn our lives around.

So You Want To Be A Writer?

If it doesn’t come bursting out of you in spite of everything,

don’t do it.

Unless it comes unmasked out of your heart and your mind and your mouth and your gut,

don’t do it.

If you have to sit for hours staring at your computer screen or hunched over your typewriter searching for words,

don’t do it.

If you’re doing it for money or fame,

don’t do it.

If you’re doing it because you want women in your bed,

don’t do it.

If you have to sit there and rewrite it again and again,

don’t do it.

If it’s hard work just thinking about doing it,

don’t do it.

If you’re trying to write like somebody else,

forget about it.

If you have to wait for it to roar out of you,

then wait patiently

if it never does roar out of you,

do something else.

If you have to read it to your wife or your girlfriend or your boyfriend or your parents or to anybody at all,

you’re not ready.

Don’t be like so many writers,

don’t be like so many thousands of people who call themselves writers,

don’t be dull or boring and pretentious,

don’t be consumed with self-love.

The libraries of the world have yawned themselves to sleep over your kind.

Don’t add to that.

Don’t do it.

Unless it comes out of your soul like a rocket,

unless being still would drive you to madness or suicide or murder,

don’t do it.

Unless the sun inside you is burning your gut,

don’t do it.

When it is truly time,

and you have been chosen,

you will do it by itself and keep on doing it until you die or it dies within you.

There is no other way

And there never was

Charles Bukowski

Isn’t this the truth when it comes to writing? It isn’t about the money or fame, it is about the small voice inside that is burning to have a story told to the world. It is about expression and finding our voice for the story to be told.

Do I agree with everything this poem has to say? No. But the essence of it resonates with me as a writer. Writing isn’t a simple task even though others might think that. It is just like any endeavor that one takes on. It is filled with good days and bad, obstacles that have to be overcome and a persistent drive to never surrender.

It is a battle with the greatest foe of all, the mind. Where creativity, knowledge and expression come into one place, through the written word. Through countless defeats and persistent effort one may find their voice, the most coveted aim of them all. For that voice will reverberate with the reader and imprint into the soul.

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”

Zig Ziglar

You know the feeling when you get that initial burst of motivation, the feeling that you can conquer the world and accomplish a thousand tasks. That initial burst may last for a few days or maybe even a couple of weeks if you are lucky, but it’ll eventually dissipate.

Then the dreaded brick wall of slowing down and possibly not wanting to do what you originally set out to do. That initial motivation has long worn off and you are searching for new inspiration to keep that fire alive inside. That fire to reach that goal and to continue the journey to the end result of achieving that dream you have fixated in your mind.

That is where the application of self-motivators is essential to keep that desire inside burning white hot. A self-motivator is something that you can call upon when things seem to be going wrong or you are struggling to keep yourself moving forward. It is your “why” behind the purpose of what you are trying to achieve. It is a battle cry that will keep you going through the toughest of days.

A self-motivator can be a variety of things. A picture of a loved one, a quote, a verse, an excerpt from a piece of literature, the only factor of it is that it must have a tremendous impact upon you. Something that resonates into the deepest chambers of your soul. Take some time to find your self-motivator. It is a simple task that can reward you immensely.

Here are a few examples:

“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”

“I can, therefore I am.”

Simone Well

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

Thomas Edison

“If you can dream it, you can do it.”

Walt Disney

“A will finds a way.”

Orison Swett Marden

Not satisfied by what you see here or what you have found so far in your search? The best thing to do then is to create your own self-motivator. Something personalized and tailored to what you want to do for your life.

When you find that self-motivator hang it where you can see it every day and look at it whenever you need a boost of motivation to get you through the day. Before you know it, that self-motivator will pop into your mind whenever you are lacking in desire to do something.

Find that self-motivator that will be your battle cry for you to achieve whatever you want in your life! Don’t stop till you find it!

Do you have any self-motivators already in place? What are they and what do they mean to you?

Don’t You Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about,

When he might have won if he stuck it out.

Don’t give up, though the pace seems slow-

You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than

It seems to a faint and faltering man;

Often the struggler has given up

When he might have captured the victor’s cup,

And he learned too late, when the night slipped down,

How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out-

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

And you can never tell how close you are-

It may be near when it seems afar;

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit-

It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.

-John Greenleaf Whittier

When tough times have us down or when life seems hopeless, one more step is all it might take to change the tide. Whatever it may be that we are going through we must keep moving forward. We must have faith that our lives can be better than our current situations or circumstances.

“Success is failure turned inside out”. We can’t be afraid of failure because in reality failure only exists on one condition. If you quit. The other failures that you may perceive are only temporary defeats. If you keep going you will achieve success in any endeavor that you may choose.

Those down times that you have are learning experiences. The trials, tribulations, adversities, heartbreaks and defeats teach us more about life than our successes. Embrace the experiences. Find some value in these times because they will give you something to change the tide. The one thing you can’t do is quit.

It is when you are hardest hit that you mustn’t quit because at that moment if you try one more time, it could be the success you have been seeking for your life.

So don’t give up. Take one more step regardless of your pain. On the other side is a life of your dreams and if you are still breathing there still is hope for your future. I believe that you can take one more step. I believe that you can have what you desire for your life.

What impression did this poem have on you? I would love to hear your feedback on what this poem means to you.
